Welcome May! Here’s your Convivio Book of Days Calendar<\/a> for the month. It looks a bit different than usual, but it still prints on standard US Letter size paper. I was in an analog mood when I designed this month’s calendar: I wrote it out with pen and ink. You get my less-than-stellar handwriting and you get a misspelling or two to boot.<\/p>\n

And since it is May Day, Margaret next door asked me to share this with you. She says you should read it aloud.<\/p>\n

Corinna\u2019s Going a-Maying<\/em>

Get up, get up for shame, the blooming morn
\nUpon her wings presents the god unshorn.
\nSee how Aurora throws her fair
\nFresh-quilted colours through the air :
\nGet up, sweet slug-a-bed, and see
\nThe dew bespangling herb and tree.
\nEach flower has wept and bow\u2019d toward the east
\nAbove an hour since : yet you not dress\u2019d ;
\nNay ! not so much as out of bed?
\nWhen all the birds have matins said
\nAnd sung their thankful hymns, \u2019tis sin,
\nNay, profanation to keep in,
\nWhereas a thousand virgins on this day
\nSpring, sooner than the lark, to fetch in May.<\/p>\n

Rise and put on your foliage, and be seen
\nTo come forth, like the spring-time, fresh and green,
\nAnd sweet as Flora. Take no care
\nFor jewels for your gown or hair :
\nFear not ; the leaves will strew
\nGems in abundance upon you :
\nBesides, the childhood of the day has kept,
\nAgainst you come, some orient pearls unwept ;
\nCome and receive them while the light
\nHangs on the dew-locks of the night :
\nAnd Titan on the eastern hill
\nRetires himself, or else stands still
\nTill you come forth. Wash, dress, be brief in praying :
\nFew beads are best when once we go a-Maying.<\/p>\n

Come, my Corinna, come ; and, coming, mark
\nHow each field turns a street, each street a park
\nMade green and trimm\u2019d with trees : see how
\nDevotion gives each house a bough
\nOr branch : each porch, each door ere this
\nAn ark, a tabernacle is,
\nMade up of white-thorn neatly interwove ;
\nAs if here were those cooler shades of love.
\nCan such delights be in the street
\nAnd open fields and we not see\u2019t ?
\nCome, we\u2019ll abroad ; and let\u2019s obey
\nThe proclamation made for May :
\nAnd sin no more, as we have done, by staying ;
\nBut, my Corinna, come, let\u2019s go a-Maying.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s not a budding boy or girl this day
\nBut is got up, and gone to bring in May.
\nA deal of youth, ere this, is come
\nBack, and with white-thorn laden home.
\nSome have despatch\u2019d their cakes and cream
\nBefore that we have left to dream :
\nAnd some have wept, and woo\u2019d, and plighted troth,
\nAnd chose their priest, ere we can cast off sloth :
\nMany a green-gown has been given ;
\nMany a kiss, both odd and even :
\nMany a glance too has been sent
\nFrom out the eye, love\u2019s firmament ;
\nMany a jest told of the keys betraying
\nThis night, and locks pick\u2019d, yet we\u2019re not a-Maying.<\/p>\n

Come, let us go while we are in our prime ;
\nAnd take the harmless folly of the time.
\nWe shall grow old apace, and die
\nBefore we know our liberty.
\nOur life is short, and our days run
\nAs fast away as does the sun ;
\nAnd, as a vapour or a drop of rain
\nOnce lost, can ne\u2019er be found again,
\nSo when or you or I are made
\nA fable, song, or fleeting shade,
\nAll love, all liking, all delight
\nLies drowned with us in endless night.
\nThen while time serves, and we are but decaying,
