Twelfth Night, or Your January Book of Days

We are firmly in the second half of the Twelve Days of Christmas now, on the other side of the new year. Here now is your Convivio Book of Days Calendar for the month of January. Cover star is a mid 17th century painting by David Teniers the Younger, called Twelfth-Night (The King Drinks). Indeed, Twelfth Night will soon be upon us, so if you are celebrating (and I think you should), here’s enough warning that you can plan ahead for it.

It’s New Year’s Day as I write this. The first day of the year is an appropriate one for wassailing out in nature amongst the trees, but it’s a custom that carries well through all these remaining days of Christmas. We’ve got a lovely recipe for Wassail in the previous chapter of the blog, and you can also read there about other customs for these remaining days. Enjoy the calendar!
